2011 NAHB Homes for Life Major Space Award Winner
wifive is proud to announce that we have been selected by the national association of homebuilders (nahb) remodelers as the recipient of the 2011 homes for life - major space award for a master suite remodel we completed to address multiple safety concerns and mobility limitations for a client living with muscular dystrophy.
THE HOMES FOR LIFE AWARDS RECOGNIZE CERTIFIED AGING-IN-PLACE SPECIALIST (CAPS) DESIGNEES FOR EXCELLENCE IN AGING-IN-PLACE DESIGN AND/OR ACCESSIBLE HOME MODIFICATIONS IN A HOME REMODELING PROJECT. THESE HOMES OFFER SPECIFIC DESIGN OR PROGRAMMATIC SOLUTIONS THAT AID THE INDIVIDUAL RESIDENT(S) TO CONTINUE LIVING IN THEIR HOME AS THEY GROW OLDER AND/OR FACE PHYSICAL CHALLENGES. THE AWARD WAS PRESENTED ON OCTOBER 14, 2011 AT THE NAHB REMODELERS GALA AT THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
"The scope of this particular project incorporated the need to increase accessibility and safety to the home of Wafa, a pediatrician with her own practice who lives with Muscular Dystrophy. The existing home was built 21 years ago to be an "accessible" home that included an elevator to all three floors. As her needs changed, Wafa found her morning routine of personal care becoming increasingly difficult and time consuming, leading to several falls in the shower due to the amount of energy she was exhausting just to get around. Wafa was persistent about finding a solution that addressed her key functional needs without compromising beauty. The Master Suite truly has her desired spa-like feel and has allowed her to cut the time needed to complete her morning routine in half." -BRIAN SCHWIETERMAN, AIA CAPS
